Fall Out Boy

i don’t care what you think, as long as it’s about me

Fall Out Boy – I Don’t Care (Cobra Starship Suave Suarez Remix)

First I love the narcissism of the chorus. Then I love the bombast that Cobra Starship adds compared to the original.

Sash! feat. Stunt – Raindrops (Encore Une Fois) (Fonzerelli Rework Radio Edit)

Fonzerelli takes the chorus somewhere completely unexpected, and it’s amazing.

Paul Oakenfold feat. Ryan Tedder – Not Over (Oakenfold 2008 Remix)

The downward progression during the chorus is so good.

Katy Perry – Hot N Cold (Jason Nevins Radio Edit)

I loved the original, and I love this remix even more. It’s uncontrollably joyous. There’s bouncy synth! There’s a superfluous mini guitar solo at the end! I can’t resist.

oh my god that britney’s shameless

2007 Top 20: 11-15

11. Rihanna – Umbrella (The Lindbergh Palace Radio Edit)

One of my favorite moments out of 2007 was when we were at Trash Palace and someone opened up an umbrella to dance under during this song. Amazing. This mix is pretty good, a bit camp, about on par with Jody den Broeder’s mixes. Not particularly better than the original, but you might not have heard it.

12. Fall Out Boy – Thnks Fr Th Mmrs (The Lindbergh Palace Radio Edit)

Loved the original. Love this mix even more. It’s much more dramatic; the yearning is palpable (and the strings are amazing!).

13. Britney Spears – Piece of Me

Oh sigh. Blackout is actually, surprisingly, shockingly excellent, but no one is going to notice because Britney has gone batshit insane. This song’s chorus is brilliant.

14. Hilary Duff – Stranger (Albert Castillo Radio Edit)

Another sinister Duff mix.

15. Good Charlotte – Dance Floor Anthem

Carolyn told me about this album, Good Morning Revival, and how surprised she was that she liked it so much. This song is emblematic, with a catchy, irrepressible chorus.

i’m a leading man

Sigh. Apologies for the lack of updates. April was not a great month for Slag Patrol: Deported Edition, but there were a couple hot tracks out.

Fall Out Boy – This Ain’t A Scene, It’s an Arms Race (Jason Nevins Rock Dance Remix)

Still loving Infinity on High. This Jason Nevins treatment is so good even the emo kids will dance to it. It’s sped up a bit and has a bouncy backbeat. Can’t decide whether I prefer the well-paced longer version (above) or the straight-to-the-point short edit. Both are great.

ATB feat. Heather Nova – Renegade (Airplay Mix)

Full disclosure: I’ve thought fondly of Heather Nova ever since her song Heart and Shoulder was used to ridiculous melodramatic effect on a teen drama in the late 90s (it was probably Felicity, but might have been Dawson’s Creek. Cringe.) In any case, ATB hasn’t really been good since then either, so Renegade is a step in the right direction. But this ‘Airplay Mix’ is too soft–it’s like the ‘approved by mom’ mix. It’s not bad but it lacks passion. The other remixes I’ve heard have good bits but the payoff isn’t worth it for the boring repetitive parts. Hopefully we’ll see some other remixes.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor – Me and My Imagination (Tony Lamezma Remix)

Meant to post Catch You but never got around to it; this is the latest single. Tony Lamezma is a Slag Patrol favorite, and this mix doesn’t disappoint. It swooshes, builds and crashes as you’d expect. I like the “Never give…” beat bounce.

The Sounds – Tony the Beat (Rex the Dog Radio Version)

Saw The Sounds open for Panic! at the Disco last fall–they’re hot. And Rex the Dog did one of my favorite mash-ups ever in Kelly Clarkson vs. Depeche Mode – Since You Been Gahan. The synth is strong with this one, but it really works.

David Guetta – The World Is Mine (Paul Oakenfold’s Downtempo Mix)

Remember The World Is Mine from last month? Paul Oakenfold’s mix is indeed downtempo, and is a nice alternative take on the song.

Universal Poplab – Fire

Love these guys. Haven’t heard their latest album yet (it was out last fall), but this is the latest single. Very good electropop, with nice synth and a catchy chorus.

it’s just not right

Apologies to my loyal fans–this whole ‘getting deported’ thing definitely got in the way of my blogging. But 4 tracks today, 4 tracks tomorrow to catch up.

Hilary Duff – Stranger

The lead off track to her new album, Dignity. The whole album is surprisingly listenable, and this song is a standout. It’s one of those ‘has ok/pretty good verses but an AMAZING chorus’ songs. The chorus is extraordinarily slick–swirling, a bit melancholy, and very catchy.

Justin Timberlake – What Goes Around Comes Around (Sebastien Leger Radio Edit)

I know, I know, this is the third time I’m posting a version of this song. But this is the best remix yet–starts out all 8-bit and kicks in with a brilliant bassline. The only thing I don’t like is its abrupt end.

Hilary Duff – With Love (Big Woody Radio Edit)

Another repeat song. Another Duff track. I know. This version of With Love is by a guy named Big Woody, and it’s sexier and sluttier than even the Bimbo Jones remix. I know.

Fall Out Boy – Thnks Fr Th Mmrs

Slag Patrol devotees will know that I’m a sucker for well-used strings, and Fall Out Boy well-uses them liberally on their very good new album. This is the latest single. Love the chorus and the ‘one more night’ at 2:47.
